Fire-hosed by "micro-content"

Can you keep up? In our current climate, it is nearly the norm that you need to be creating content for every social media outlet you are comfortable with and do it daily.

Imagine being any kind of artist, from photographer to comedian or painter to musician. Are we able to create a new photo, joke, painting, or song every day? Further, how much quality work can we expect to produce when this becomes the status quo?

One of my fears with the view of pumping out micro-content every day is that we will both lose possible great art and also lose our patience to wait for that great art and savor the great art being created at a more gradual pace.

Would Mozart have created the classics he did if he needed to crank them out each day? What about Don Rickles if he had to change his schtick every few days? What about the Beatles releasing a new single 5-times a week? What if Ansel Adams shot a classic black and white 300 days a year?

Is it possible to strike a balance between quantity and quality, or must we open our own firehose and get on with it.
