Heroes aren’t heroes because they won, but because of the way they behave when the bullets started flying. The bias we have toward survivors creates an invisible history of sorts that hides many heroes we may have otherwise heard of.
Maybe we should question the winners and examine the conduct of the losers, too. How much a fuller history might we learn and what value could we extract?
