My stupidity and the wonder of history

I’m not an advocate of contesting wars. I do believe just wars to be acceptable, however not ideal, but sometimes necessary.

The more I read, the more I am reminded of how dumb I am. I wish I could come up with the brilliant quotes, ideas, and pondering of the ancient writers.

Today’s thoughtful quote is from our (very) old friend, Herodotus, who talks about war and the inversion of nature when the older must bury the younger.

No one is foolish enough to prefer war from peace. In peace, sons bury their fathers. In war, fathers bury their sons.
— Herodotus, 480-420 BC, Ancient Greek historian
