Making artwork for the applause

We didn’t get into this game for the “likes” or the audiences tacit approval of what we make. Yet we get sucked away by the allure of the audience’s approval far too often.

Half the time we don’t even compare our work with the other guy, we just look at the attention he’s received and jump to a conclusion.

He’s better, funnier, wittier, more creative, etc…

The moment you chase numbers you will start making artwork without a soul and it will only be a matter of time before it drains the creative life out of you. You must make for the love of making and let the gallery cheer or boo as they see fit. But you still know you’re right regardless of what they say.
