Poisoning the well (and fixing the root issue)

It’s easy for the outsider to look at what they see and draw their conclusion without all the details. As humans, we try to make every situation a simple one.

We’re conditional to simplify the world as the world around us grows more complex. Let’s see how that turns out.

But the outward manifestation of a problem (which is what other people see and base their judgment on) is only the outward part. It’s the fruit of the rotten (or injured) tree.

So do we keep plucking off the bad fruit and demand that the fruit gets better, or do we examine the tree and figure out where it’s going wrong?

If you don’t clean the well, the water will always be poisoned no matter how many cups you draw.

I think it is important both in our lives and the lives of those around us to begin considering the issue underlying the issue we see. That’s where real change can be affected and it also helps up to be a little more empathetic to people who would otherwise annoy us with their many problems.
