When I first started teaching I was wracked with fear that I would be exposed as an imposter. I wouldn’t teach anyone anything except that I didn’t know what I was talking about. It was uncomfortable.
It brings me to my point, teach what you know. You know more about everything you know how to do than somebody out there. Therefore, your knowledge is useful to somebody regardless of how sure you are that you have no value to offer.
I’ve observed that some of the best teachers I’ve ever met are the ones who think they’re frauds. The teachers would think they know it all are irritating at best.
Teach and share what you know. It will help more people than you could imagine.
It’s up to you to strike the balance between:
a.) The confidence to teach what you know while also always being open to learning.
and...
b.) the arrogance of thinking nobody could possibly teach you anything.
It is a delicate balance, but essential for longevity and humanity in the work you do. Humility and empathy will be your friend here.
